This past long weekend I went to Trapani, Sicily.
Trapani is not a major tourist destination, so the two American blondes created a lot of attention among this small town.
Abbey and I started off our trip by exploring and spending some time at the beach.
We tried the famous Sicilian granitas and of course cannoli!
We also watched the sunset on the beach while drinking some Sicilian wine
We finished that night off with another Sicilian treat, gelato served in a brioche bun.
The gelato was to die for, but I took two bites of the brioche before I was full!
The next day, the forecast was horrendous! Showers spread throughout the day.
Well, I am never one to let rain spoil a trip, so I hopped on a bus to San Vito Lo Capo, a nearby beach town with apparently one of the most beautiful beaches in Italy.
From there I rented a bike, and biked the 12 km (mostly uphill) to Zingaro, a national reserve.
I spent about six hours there hiking around and climbing some rocks!
I discovered this sketchy looking cave, but decided I would regret it if I didn't venture down there.
It was extremely creepy but totally worth it!
This was the San Vito Lo Capo beach.
I will admit it was beautiful, but probably more so in the sun.
The next day, the forecast was worse. Thunderstorms!
Again, I said rain wasn't going to stop me and I rented another bike.
Well, the bike did stop me.
Halfway to the salt reserves, the pedal fell off!
I walked it back to the shop and got a new one and was off once more!
I found this "monument" praising those who helped the Italians during the first world war.
Along my way, I discovered a very sad, crying kitten.
I held it for a long time before deciding I needed to get back on track!
And alas, here came the sun!
The salt reserves were still functioning and boy were they magical!
The huge white pile off to the left is drying sea salt!!
On my bike ride back, I found some sea salt where you could take pictures!
I sure hope they don't sell this stuff that you could walk on!
I explored Trapani some more on my bike trying to enjoy the sun!
I met a nice German couple that offered to take a picture of me.
It turned into a photoshoot of them placing me in different areas around the dock.....
I convinced Abbey to meet up with me because I found this cool thing for us to do.
FISH PEDICURES!
After several weeks of walking more than I probably have in my whole life, I needed this.
We sat for 30 minutes and let the fishies do their thing!
It was amazing and my feet feel so soft and happy
I grew very fond of my fish.
We later tried Sicilian pizza for the first time.
Dang, that thick crust is good!
The next day I went to one of the Egadi islands, Favignana.
I rented a bike (surprise) and biked over halfway around the island before I had to catch a ferry back.
The views were breathtaking.
I bumped into my beach bum roommate chillin at the most popular beach where we found an old Italian woman who insisted on posing us many different ways!
My trip to Sicily was unforgettable and I can't wait to go back!
My mom and grandma are arriving in a couple hours!
I can't wait to see them both, but that means that my time in Rome is almost over.
I am so sad about that, but at least I will be traveling around for a few weeks after I say goodbye to my home for the last three months.
I can't wait to get back to Dallas and eat Tex Mex and watch baseball (maybe at the same time)
Ciao!
